Associate Director/Director Sec Reporting & Sox Compliance

Position Summary:

Reporting to the SVP, Accounting, the Associate Director or Director, SEC Reporting & SOX Compliance will have a broad scope of responsibility including, but not limited to, the following: SEC reporting, technical accounting research and positions, and SOX compliance. This role will require a deep understanding of US GAAP, SEC guidance, and SOX 404 requirements, strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, and an ability to develop relationships and work cross-functionally.

The ideal candidate is highly motivated, detail-oriented, and can help identify and develop best processes and practices to help support the growth of our team and Company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute all external, SEC financial reporting processes and initiatives, including related activities such as annual, quarterly, and periodic reports (i.e., 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K), ensuring compliance with all disclosure requirements, and assist with the Company's annual proxy statement
  • Research, interpret and document technical accounting conclusions for new accounting standards and complex accounting issues or transactions
  • Proactively strive for process improvements to enhance financial reporting processes and implement best practices
  • Lead SOX 404(b) compliance efforts by designing and implementing new internal controls as needed, monitoring ongoing performance and compliance of SOX procedures, ensuring appropriate documentation (narratives, risk assessments, testing results, etc.), and identifying exceptions and conducting remediation efforts as needed
  • Manage and coordinate directly with the outsourced internal audit firm, ensuring timely execution of testing and alignment with Company priorities
  • Manage and coordinate directly with external auditors and facilitate quarterly review and year-end audit procedures, including SOX and internal control matters
  • Monitor changes in business operations, systems, and organizational structure to assess SOX impact and update control frameworks accordingly
  • Assist with monthly accounting close duties, as needed
  • Provide guidance and training to control owners and finance personnel on SOX and accounting matters
  • Complete special projects and financial analyses, as needed
  • Perform all duties in keeping with the Company's core values, policies, and all applicable regulations

Required Education, Experience and Attributes:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of accounting experience; combination of public accounting and life science industry experience highly preferred
  • Experience at a commercial biotechnology company is a plus
  • CPA designation required
  • Experience with Net Suite, Coupa, and Active Disclosure preferred
  • Experience working in a SOX 404(b) compliant environment required
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, SEC reporting, and Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks are essential
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively share information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strong learning orientation, curiosity, and commitment to science and patients

The anticipated salary range for this position is $190,000 - $220,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. In addition to base salary, the hired applicant will be eligible to receive an annual bonus and an equity grant at hire and annually in the form of the option to purchase stock in the future for a specified price.
