SR. ACCOUNTING ANALYST

LOCATION:

San Diego, CA – Hybrid

SCHEDULE:

Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

DURATION: 7-month contract

PAY: 54-59 USD per hour

Job Responsibilities:

In this role, you will support day-to-day accounting operations, with a focus on manufacturing costing, excess and obsolete (E&O) reserves, gross margin analysis, and duties and freight accruals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting accounting operations and financial reporting activities, including:
    • Performing month-end account analyses and reconciliations.
    • Preparing and posting journal entries.
    • Conducting quarterly account reviews.
    • Supporting manufacturing costing and variance analysis.
  • Performing cost accounting activities, including manufacturing variance capitalization, E&O reserves, gross margin analysis, and duties and freight accruals.
  • Participating in user acceptance testing (UAT) for designated areas as part of an ERP upgrade.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to support critical projects and meet business objectives.
  • Ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable accounting policies and requirements.
Essential Duties and

Job Functions:
  • Perform detailed month-end account analyses and reconciliations to support accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with applicable accounting policies.
  • Conduct quarterly account reviews and identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support manufacturing cost accounting activities and analyze manufacturing variances.
  • Perform manufacturing variance capitalization activities.
  • Calculate and maintain excess and obsolete (E&O) inventory reserves.
  • Perform gross margin analysis and investigate significant variances.
  • Record and reconcile accruals related to duties and freight.
  • Support the protection of company assets through accurate accounting, reconciliation, and review processes.
  • Participate in ERP upgrade user acceptance testing for designated functional areas.
  • Collaborate with accounting, finance, operations, and other functional groups to expedite completion of critical projects.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to implementation efforts.
  • Ensure accounting activities are performed accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Maintain compliance with US GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) requirements, and applicable company policies and procedures.
Knowledge &

Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple tasks under accelerated deadlines.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with SAP or an equivalent ERP system is a plus.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree.
  • Alternatively, 6 years of related experience with a Master's degree, or 3 years of related experience with a PhD, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in accounting, cost accounting, manufacturing accounting, or a related field.
  • Experience with SAP or another ERP system preferred.
  • CPA certification is a plus.
  • Relevant industry accounting experience is a plus.
  • Experience with US GAAP and SOX requirements preferred.
