Position Summary
The Facilities and Operations Assistant plays a key role in supporting the successful execution of SDSU Athletic Department events and daily facility operations. As part of the Athletic Event Management/Facilities and Operations team, this position helps coordinate logistics, manage administrative processes, and ensure athletic venues are organized, prepared, and event‑ready. From vendor coordination and facility scheduling to credential distribution and game contract administration, this role contributes directly to the smooth delivery of intercollegiate athletics events.

- Assist with planning and coordination of athletic events, including vendor management, facility scheduling, and sport‑specific game operations.
- Support administrative processes such as credential distribution, game contract preparation, and championship hosting logistics.
- Monitor and assist with budget tracking, inventory control, and procurement‑related tasks.
- Provide lead direction to student workers and event staff as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with departmental policies, NCAA regulations, and event management best practices.

- This is a full‑time (1.0 time‑base), benefits eligible, temporary position with an anticipated end date of December 31, 2026, with the possibility of reappointment.
- This position is designated non‑exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs (Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends).
- The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
The Department of Athletics, utilizing the services of over 150 employees, is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University. Currently, there are 18 sport programs, approximately 500 student‑athletes, and 17 offices in the department. The offices include the following:

Entry to this classification requires fundamental written and oral communication skills, including a sound foundation in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; an ability to understand standard office procedures; an ability to operate standard office equipment; an ability to learn office technology systems; an ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; and typing and keyboard skills. These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through completion of a high school program or its equivalent and some experience in an office environment.
KeyQualifications
- Six months to one year of experience in an intercollegiate athletics or professional sports environment, especially in a facilities/operations support role.
- Experience in leading students or other workers.
- Ability to plan, organize, and schedule athletic activities.
- Experience with athletic contest agreement preparation.
- Experience with preparing championship bids and/or hosting championships.
- Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures.
- Experience with Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or Google Drive.
