Kaiser Permanente is seeking dependable and organized Hospital Unit Coordinators to join the team at Zion Medical Center in San Diego. This role is perfect for someone with recent acute care hospital experience who enjoys supporting nurses, physicians, patients, and families in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Also known as a Ward Clerk or Unit Clerk, the Hospital Unit Coordinator serves as the administrative hub of the nursing unit by coordinating communication, processing provider orders, maintaining patient records, and ensuring the unit operates efficiently.
- $22-$24
/hour - 6-month contract
- On-site at Kaiser Permanente Zion Medical Center in San Diego
- Client-provided equipment
- W2 employment only
We're hiring for multiple schedules, making this a great opportunity for candidates looking for either full-time or part-time work.
- 32 hours/week | Day Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
- 32 hours/week | Evening Shift: 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM
- Part-Time Day Shift
- Part-Time Night Shift
- Provide administrative support for a busy nursing unit
- Answer and direct incoming phone calls
- Process physician and provider orders accurately
- Coordinate patient testing, procedures, and examinations
- Complete requisitions and maintain unit documentation
- Maintain patient records, census information, and departmental logs
- Communicate with nurses, physicians, patients, and families
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information
- Assist with unit organization and daily operations
- Maintain supplies and support an efficient clinical environment
- Completion of an approved Hospital Unit Coordinator/Ward Clerk training program
- At least one year of experience within the past three years as a Hospital Unit Coordinator, Ward Clerk, Unit Clerk, Unit Secretary, or Health Unit Coordinator in an acute care hospital
- Medical terminology
- Experience processing provider or physician orders
- Experience coordinating patient tests and procedures
Basic computer skills - Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced hospital environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- High school diploma or GED required
- Familiarity with hospital workflows and patient coordination
