ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION Established in 1983, San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, Inc. (SDVLP) is the oldest and most comprehensive pro bono legal services program in San Diego County. SDVLP’s mission is to provide equal access to the justice system by serving as a bridge between indigent and other disadvantaged people in San Diego County and the volunteer lawyers who are willing to donate their time and resources.

OCCUPATIONAL

SUMMARY:

The Legal Administrative Assistant will provide administrative and legal support to Staff Attorneys serving clients at the Central Family Justice Center (FJC) – Your Safe Place (YSP) and the Central San Diego Courthouse. In this role, the Legal Administrative Assistant will support the delivery of legal services to victims of abuse, helping ensure they receive compassionate, timely, and effective assistance.

Both locations are currently situated in downtown San Diego. YSP is expected to relocate to Kearny Mesa.

ESSENTIAL

JOB DUTIES:

The Legal Administrative Assistant will be responsible for:

Screening applicants to determine eligibility for services and conducting intake of new clients;

Assisting in providing client services;

Maintaining accurate program records, including client and volunteer information, to support operational processes, reporting, and other administrative needs;

Collaborating with Family Justice Center staff to effectively coordinate legal services;

Maintaining client files and creating forms and documents;

Coordinating volunteer schedules;

Assisting in the recruitment and training of volunteers;

Assisting in the scheduling of presentations and trainings;

Translating/interpreting for clients, as appropriate;

Traveling to/from court for filing legal documents, delivery to the Sheriffs for service, and returning documents to the legal clinic;

Traveling between two primary work locations: the Central Family Justice Center (FJC) – Your Safe Place (YSP) and the Central San Diego courthouse, as part of the regular work schedule; and Engaging in other tasks and projects as needed to further SDVLP’s mission.

Fluency (written and verbal) in Spanish and English required;

Strong Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills required;

At least 6 months of general office administration experience required; andMust have dependable transportation, and a clean driving record. Valid driver’s license with proof of insurance is required; and Associate degree.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is based in Central San Diego and requires in-office work five days per week, with the schedule split between two locations: the Superior Court of San Diego and the Family Justice Center – Your Safe Place (YSP). Both locations are currently in downtown San Diego; YSP is expected to relocate to Kearny Mesa; andWork hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at YSP, and Tuesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch at the Superior Court of San Diego.

WAGE RANGE & BENEFITS:

Pay rate is $21.00/hr.;

Comprehensive medical benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance;401K retirement plan with a generous match after 6 months of employment;15 days paid annual leave (increases to 20 days after 2 years), 10 days paid sick leave, and 16 paid holidays; andWe are an eligible employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
