CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR - WORK LOCATION - CITY OF IRVINE
Job Summary:
This is a 30,000 SF adaptive‑reuse renovation of a former base‑era structure, converted from storage to assembly and delivered as a premier indoor/outdoor event center. The scope includes selective demolition (including partial removal of existing tilt‑up panels for seismic retrofit), removal of existing exterior glazing, mezzanine, and complete replacement of MEP systems (mechanical, plumbing, electrical), fire sprinkler, and fire alarm. New work includes seismic/structural retrofitting, new curtain wall/exterior glazing, skylights, roofing, and full interior buildout (partitions, doors, restrooms, warming kitchen, offices/meeting spaces, dressing rooms, finishes) along with associated MEP/FP systems.
The project is intended to be “LEED Equivalent” and includes design‑build/deferred submittal elements requiring contractor engineering and plan‑check approvals (curtain wall, fire sprinklers, and stud framing).
- 5 years of construction inspection experience
- Associate's degree in construction technology or a related field
- Ensuring construction activities conform to the plans and specifications.
- Ensuring compliance with contract documents, as well as with local, county, state and federal laws, ordinances, rules, regulations, and with regulatory/resource agency permits.
- Documenting and monitoring construction progress by preparing daily inspection reports and daily digital video and photography logs.
- Working with the City's Consultant CM firm (being hired via separate RFP) to oversee the project's quality control/quality assurance materials testing and inspection programs and providing construction survey quality assurance.
- Preparing Weekly Statements of Working Days (WSWD) and monthly project Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule update input.
- Monitoring and documenting weather conditions and ensuring Best Management Practices (BMPs) are in place in accordance with the approved Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
- Working with the City's Consultant CM firm to measure, calculate, and track construction bid item quantities for monthly progress pay estimates.
- Ensuring the materials provided and the work performed by the Contractor accords with the contract documents by verifying and collecting required material certifications before the Contractor incorporates materials into the work.
- Maintaining awareness of safety and health requirements and of applicable regulations and contract provisions for the protection of the public and project personnel.
- Reviewing contractor's safety program; documenting deficiencies and recommending appropriate remediation measures.
- Working with the City's Consultant CM firm to prepare a final corrections punch list.
- Working with the City's Consultant CM firm to review and process detailed red line As‑Built construction drawings and submit all final inspection documents to the City's project manager for acceptance and project closeout.
- Attending weekly progress meetings and other City meetings alongside the Contractor and City representatives and assisting as needed with the resolution of Construction change orders and claims brought by the Contractor.
