A well-established general contractor is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee technically complex construction projects throughout San Diego County.
The company specializes in life science, healthcare, and commercial construction, including renovations and improvements within active or highly controlled environments.
This opportunity is ideal for a construction professional who enjoys managing challenging projects, working closely with clients and field teams, and taking ownership of projects from preconstruction through closeout.
Key Responsibilities- Manage projects from preconstruction and procurement through completion and closeout
- Oversee project budgets, schedules, cost forecasting, contracts, and documentation
- Coordinate with clients, architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors, and field leadership
- Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, billing, and project reporting
- Lead project meetings and communicate updates related to schedule, cost, quality, and risk
- Review subcontractor scopes, proposals, contracts, and performance
- Partner with Superintendents to support field execution, phasing, logistics, and quality control
- Identify project risks and develop practical solutions before they impact the schedule or budget
- Maintain strong client relationships and support repeat business
- Provide guidance and mentorship to Project Engineers and other project team members
- 5 or more years of commercial construction project management experience
- Experience managing technically complex commercial, life science, laboratory, healthcare, industrial, or advanced manufacturing projects
- Experience working in occupied, regulated, or operationally sensitive environments is preferred
- Strong understanding of project financials, scheduling, subcontractor management, and contract administration
- Familiarity with complex mechanical, electrical, plumbing, process, or building automation systems is beneficial
- Proficiency with commonly used construction management, scheduling, and document control software
- Strong communication, leadership, organization, and problem-solving abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field is preferred but not required
