POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Superintendent is the primary senior field leader, responsible for delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires a broader, more strategic field perspective.
In addition to owning project-level execution, the Senior Superintendent is expected to lead by example, model strong planning and execution habits, and step in to support other projects or field teams when needed. This role carries influence through experience, presence, and action - not direct responsibility for managing other Superintendents.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Field Leadership & Execution- Take a proactive role communicating with clients and design teams on issues and solutions.
- Lead field operations from mobilization through close‑out, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, budget, safety, and quality.
- Serve as a steady, solution‑oriented leader during complex or high‑pressure phases of work.
- Coordinate and lead project kick‑off, preconstruction, and weekly site meetings.
- Review drawings, permits, contracts, and specifications; track as‑builts and scope changes.
- Manage submittals, RFIs, inspections, and project documentation.
- Use proactive planning and coordination meetings to uncover conflicts or challenges in advance.
- Create clear work paths for trades to perform efficiently, eliminating rework through proper planning and communication.
- Inspect work regularly to ensure it is built per plans and specifications.
- Keep contract documents up to date and ensure they are consistently utilized by the trades.
- Develop and maintain detailed schedules with clear milestones and three‑week look‑aheads.
- Monitor trade partner progress, confirm manpower and material readiness, and approve work for payment.
- Update and modify schedules weekly; notify the project team of delays or impacts.
- Identify scope gaps, risks, or potential cost impacts early and support accurate change order management.
- Enforce company safety policies and OSHA standards; lead daily and weekly safety meetings.
- Ensure jobsite security and proper close‑up procedures daily.
- Conduct regular inspections and verify all work meets company and client quality standards.
- Track and communicate issues, potential back charges, and corrective actions.
- Prepare and distribute daily reports with photos, delivery logs, site visitors, issues, and potential changes.
- Submit reports through Procore and share with the project team by end of day.
- Maintain proactive communication with trade partners to set and confirm expectations.
- Clearly communicate expectations and follow up in writing for accountability.
- Step in to support other projects or field teams during critical phases, staffing gaps, or challenging situations.
- Lead by example in planning, communication, safety, quality, and follow‑through.
- Share knowledge, experience, and best practices informally in the field without direct supervisory responsibility.
- Support onboarding of new field team members by reinforcing company standards and expectations.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Project Coordinators, accounting, and leadership to resolve issues.
- Manage site logistics including dumpsters, sanitation, deliveries, and services.
- Capture lessons learned from field execution and feed them back into company systems.
- Maintain a servant‑leader attitude: anticipate challenges, provide solutions, and support the broader team.
- 5+ years of progressive commercial construction experience
- Demonstrated experience helping develop Superintendents
- Strong working knowledge of ground‑up and tenant improvement projects across commercial, retail, restaurant, or medical sectors.
- Expertise in construction means and methods, scheduling, and quality control with the ability to identify problems early and guide teams to the right solutions.
- Communication skills – direct, professional, and effective with field teams, office staff, clients, and trade partners alike.
- Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite; comfort using data and documentation to drive accountability.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
