The Asphalt Paving Operator is a full-time, on-site role based in San Diego, CA. This role is responsible for operating asphalt paving equipment, such as pavers, rollers, and related machinery, to complete roadways, parking lots, and other surfaces to required specifications. Day-to-day tasks include preparing work areas, assisting with grading and layout, monitoring material flow and compaction, and ensuring proper thickness, smoothness, and alignment of asphalt surfaces.
The operator will work closely with crew members to maintain safe work zones, follow project plans, and meet schedule and quality standards. Additional responsibilities may include routine equipment checks, minor maintenance, and accurate communication with supervisors regarding progress and site conditions.
- Experience operating asphalt paving equipment (pavers, rollers, skid steers, and related machinery) and working on paving or construction crews.
- Knowledge of asphalt materials, compaction techniques, grading, and site preparation for commercial, municipal, or residential projects.
- Strong understanding of job site safety practices, traffic control, and proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Ability to read and follow basic plans, measurements, and instructions, with attention to detail and quality standards.
- Physical ability to perform outdoor work, including standing, lifting, bending, and working in varying weather conditions.
- Reliable transportation to San Diego-area job sites and willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional overtime.
- Valid driver’s license; experience with commercial vehicles or a CDL is a plus.
- Previous experience in asphalt paving, road construction, or a related trade is preferred; on-the-job training may be available for motivated candidates.
