The Architectural Specification Writer will work collaboratively with other design professionals and clients in a supportive team environment on a broad range of commercial projects. The candidate should have a particular sense and care for architectural design and detailing, building code compliance, project time management, budget, and technical quality of the products and services rendered. As the firms service offerings include full project engineering, this team member will be expected to coordinate their work with the other members of the engineering team(s) and should have an understanding of building and structural systems.

- Plan, prepare, schedule, organize, and execute specification development for a variety of project types in their entirety, interacting with architectural team and consultants.
- Analysis of project context, building materials, and precedents
- Assist in the development of specification standards, policies, and procedures.
- Attends meetings with owners, clients, or consultants as needed
- Review of architectural drawings and details to coordinate with specifications.
- Review and update specifications as needed to stay current with industry standards and advancements.
- Assists staff in the development of technical documentation, proposals, and presentations to clients
- Communicates design requirements with contractors, consultants, and clients to determine project scope and feasibility
- Performs project job site visits during construction to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes
- Produce project specific Project Manuals utilizing COAR design standards.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills and organizational efficiency
- 5 years of progressively responsible experience in all phases of architecture and substantial experience in the preparation of specification construction documents, with an emphasis on the preparation of construction specifications on small- and large-scale projects.
- Knowledge of architectural design, documentation, detailing, building materials, building codes, construction techniques and costs, as well as building material compatibility and characteristics.
- Extensive knowledge of industry standards, current product development, and architectural practices.
- Ability to function comfortably, gain trust, confidence, and deal effectively with a wide range of individuals including consultants, contractors, vendors, and the COAR team
- Working experience/proficiency with Master Spec, Spec Link, or other related technology
- Working experience/proficiency in Adobe Suite, and Microsoft Office/Project
- Extensive knowledge and prior experience with contract language, liability, indemnifications, and definitions.
- Proven ability in problem identification, problem solving and conflict resolution.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced design environment

This position is primarily based in an office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay range: $92,730–$128,278, commensurate with experience.
