Salary Range: $50,000.00 To $90,000.00 Annually
Job Summary:Nicklaus Engineering, Inc. is seeking an experienced Architectural Designer to perform advanced professional architectural work for municipal and military projects. The Architectural Designer applies specialized knowledge of architectural principles, building systems, and regulatory requirements to independently develop and lead design solutions from conceptual development through construction documentation.
This position exercises independent discretion and professional judgment in interpreting building codes, developing design strategies, resolving technical challenges, and making recommendations regarding architectural systems, materials, and construction methodologies. Work is performed under the general direction of a licensed Architect, with substantial latitude for independent decision-making . Architectural Designer also participates in ongoing safety and equipment training to ensure proper and safe performance of all duties.
This is a full-time , exempt position.

The Architectural Designer is primarily responsible for:
- Independently developing and leading architectural design concepts, schematic designs, and design development documents.
- Applying advanced knowledge of architectural principles, building systems, and construction methodologies to produce technically sound, code-compliant solutions.
- Interpreting and applying building codes, life-safety requirements, and other federal, state, and local regulations (including California Building Code for CA projects).
- Exercising professional judgment in resolving complex design and technical challenges.
- Determining appropriate materials, assemblies, and building systems based on project requirements and client needs.
- Leading coordination with structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, and specialty consultants.
- Overseeing preparation of construction documents to ensure design integrity and compliance.
- Reviewing and approving technical drawings and specifications for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory adherence.
- Providing technical leadership and direction to junior designers and drafting personnel.
- Evaluating constructability concerns and making professional recommendations during construction administration.
- Participating in client, contractor, and regulatory meetings as the firm’s architectural design representative.
- Monitoring architectural scope budgets and project schedules, ensuring deliverables meet financial and timeline objectives.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
- Exercises independent professional judgment regarding design feasibility, regulatory compliance, and technical implementation.
- Selects design approaches and resolves competing project constraints with discretion.
- Responsible for professional recommendations that materially affect project scope, cost, and compliance.
