Position Description

Education Studies (EDS) is an interdisciplinary department committed to equity and grounded in a close intersection between research and practice. Our mission is to collaboratively transform educational systems to better serve all students. Academic offerings include undergraduate education minors, teaching credential programs in elementary, secondary, and Deaf education, and two doctoral programs. EDS faculty research interests include linguistic and cultural diversity, teacher learning, leadership and policy, school leadership and change, family-school partnerships, and uses of educational technology in teaching and learning.

With a commitment to excellence, the University of California, San Diego Department of Education Studies invites applications for a dually appointed Academic Coordinator I / Lecturer (Pre‑Six Year) to support the Educational Leadership Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program. The incumbent will be appointed into both titles concurrently. Applicants will be selected from this pool for one‑year appointments, with the possibility of renewal based on program need, performance, and availability;

some appointments begin in the fall quarter and others in winter and spring quarters.

Teaching Responsibilities (Lecturer Appointment)

As a concurrently appointed Lecturer, the incumbent is expected to teach and/or co‑teach graduate courses in the Educational Leadership Ed.D. program. The incumbent must be able to connect leadership practice to relevant theory and scholarship, work effectively with experienced adult learners, and support students' progress through doctoral milestones. The incumbent may teach up to six (6) educational leadership graduate courses per academic year (subject to program need and appointment percentage). In addition to teaching responsibilities, duties include preparing course materials, holding office hours, providing timely feedback, evaluating student work, and assigning grades.

Program Responsibilities (Academic Coordinator I Appointment)

As a critical member of the Educational Leadership Ed.D. team, the Academic Coordinator/Lecturer contributes to the planning, development, delivery, and implementation of the program. The incumbent works closely with program leadership, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community partners to support a high‑quality doctoral experience, including recruitment and program communications. The incumbent must be able to connect leadership practice to relevant theory and scholarship, work effectively with experienced adult learners, and support students' progress through doctoral milestones.

Maintaining constructive relationships with university leadership, district partners, and community stakeholders is essential.
