Notre Dame Academy is seeking a qualified, experienced and passionate educator who is deeply committed to developing Christ-centered, forward-thinking leaders to serve our future Church and our world. Notre Dame Academy is a parish school located in San Diego, California. The Science Teacher will plan instruction, teach, differentiate, motivate, inspire and assess the learning of Elementary School students in the principles of physical and biological sciences, as well as the scientific and engineering design processes.
The candidate will promote a high quality, personalized education program that reflects the California State Next Generation Science Standards and incorporates STEM projects throughout the curriculum. The candidate will plan instruction and teach a STEM Elective. The candidate will work collaboratively with math teachers on grade level, long-term projects.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of methods, materials and techniques used to teach physical sciences, biological sciences, and STEM
- Develops and presents lessons that demonstrate planning and preparation and are consistent with the school’s course of study, the California Next Generation Science Standards, and Visible Learning pedagogy
- Uses a variety of instructional techniques and materials, which are appropriate to meet the needs of all students and understands the value of differentiating instruction
- Administers periodic assessments to evaluate and improve each student’s academic skills and social growth
- Organizes classroom systems/procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are safe, fully engaged and learning
- Collaborates with resource staff for the purpose of attaining goals designated in students’ IEPs and 504 plans
- Assesses students’ science and engineering skills for the purposes of refining classroom activities and providing feedback to students, parents and administrations regarding students’ progress, expectations. and goals
- Maintains a neat and clean classroom/lab environment.
- Participates and is a contributing member of the Notre Dame Academy’s Elementary School team for the purpose of improving students’ appreciation and love of science
- Actively participates in professional development opportunities and collaborates with the administration and peers for the purposes of improving the quality of student outcomes and planning curriculum in science
- Coordinates regular communication with parents regarding their children’s performance
- Return voice-mail/e-mail messages in a timely manner
- Communicate regularly with parents
- Maintain a neat and orderly classroom
- Demonstrate a respectful demeanor with staff, students, and parents
- Observe utmost confidentiality regarding parent, student, staff information/conversations
- Supervise playground and other areas of duty as the role may require
- Other duties as assigned
- Active, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)
- Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophy
- Possess a cleared California multiple subject teaching credential (preferred)
Possess a Bachelor’s Degree - Clear criminal background check (a clear Livescan for the Diocese of San Diego is a condition of employment)
- Experience teaching in an elementary school classroom

To successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must:
- Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating
- Sit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc.
- Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces
