Description

The OLP Dance Team is looking for a passionate dance coach to join our family. Within the Athletics Department at the Academy of Our Lady of Peace, the OLP Dance Team is a year-round performance and competitive team. We are looking for someone dedicated to program development who helps coach student‑athletes to success on and off the dance floor. We are interested in finding someone who will work closely with the program’s Head Coach and Athletic Director in developing a strong JV Dance Team.

Previous teaching/coaching experience in a competitive dance setting is required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and running effective JV practices.
    • School Year (August - April) - 2-3 days/week @ 6:00-7:30am.
    • Summer (mid June - August) - Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays TBD
    • Additional practices may be added when needed.
  • Development & improvement of dancers' technique skills, artistry, and performance quality.
  • Choreographing, staging, & cleaning JV dances for performances and competitions.
    • Styles include:
      Jazz, Pom, Hip Hop, and Lyrical.
  • Communicating with dancers & parents in an effective, professional, and timely manner.
  • Working closely with the JV Cheer Coach to prepare for football games & performances.
  • Attending all JV performances and football games.
  • Attending all OLP Dance Team Competitions, including an overnight stay at WCE Nationals.
  • Attending the annual overnight WCE Summer Dance Experience Camp in July.
  • Attending the Annual OLP Dance Showcase in April.
  • Assisting the Head Coach with various team responsibilities.
  • Develop team spirit and model good sportsmanship.
  • Develop & cultivate a positive, encouraging, & inclusive team culture.
  • Enforcing school and team rules & standards (academically & behaviorally).
  • Uphold the School Mission and model the values of OLP.

Requirements

Essential qualities include: experienced dance coaching skills and knowledge, good communication, teamwork philosophy, and character development for female student‑athletes. A minimum of three years of high school coaching or equivalent experience is preferred. Applicants must have a current TB test and CPR/AED, and First‑Aid Certification. Applicants must have a Livescan background review and obtain the required CIF paperwork, including coaching certification, concussion education, and sudden cardiac arrest education, before hire.

This is a non‑exempt, seasonal position.

OLP will consider qualified applicants with a criminal history pursuant to the California Fair Chance Act. After making a conditional offer and running a background check, if OLP is concerned about a conviction that is directly related to the job, you will be given the chance to explain the circumstances surrounding the conviction, provide mitigating evidence, or challenge the accuracy of the background report.
