Position Summary
The Residence Hall Coordinator (RHC) provides leadership, management, and oversight of a student residential community housing approximately 350–800 students within the Residential Education Office at San Diego State University. Reporting to the Associate Director of Residential Education, the RHC is responsible for fostering a safe, inclusive, and developmentally focused living-learning environment that supports student success, retention, and well-being. This live-in position supervises and develops a team of Resident Advisors or Community Assistants, oversees daily operations of a residential facility, manages student conduct processes, responds to crises, and collaborates with campus partners to support a vibrant residential experience aligned with the mission of the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage a residential community by promoting student engagement, accountability, and inclusive community standards.
- Supervise, train, evaluate, and support a team of 8–22 Resident Advisors or Community Assistants, including recruitment and ongoing staff development.
- Oversee administrative and operational functions of a residence hall or apartment complex, including facilities coordination, security, desk operations, reporting, and housing processes.
- Serve as a Conduct Coordinator and University Judicial Officer, addressing behavioral concerns, adjudicating cases, and promoting student learning and responsibility.
- Participate in a 24-hour on-call duty rotation, responding to student crises and emergencies and coordinating with campus and community partners.
- Play a direct role in shaping a dynamic residential community that supports student success, belonging, and holistic development.
- Gain significant leadership and supervisory experience managing professional-level responsibilities in a complex residential environment.
- Live and work on campus in a furnished apartment with meals provided when dining services are open.

- This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2027, with the possibility of reappointment.
- This appointment is for an 11/12 pay-plan position, renewable for up to three years total. The incumbent works 11 months per year and is paid over 12 months, with June 2027 as the anticipated off month.
- This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
- Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
- The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
The Residential Education Office is designated as the University department responsible for planning and administering Residential Education programs and services including those in traditional residence halls and apartment complexes. The Residential Education Office serves to enhance student life and success through a comprehensive living-learning experience that provides academic and personal support, contact with faculty, educational programs, community activities, student leadership development and multicultural learning opportunities.
The department is part of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity sub-division.
