Design Institute of San Diego (DI) is seeking qualified instructors to serve as part-time/adjunct faculty for the Master of Interior Design (MID) on-site and online program. This program offers advanced scholarship in interior design by engaging students in human-centered design research and innovative processes preparing environmentally and socially responsible scholars, educators, and design practitioners.
Teaching assignments will be made on a term-by-term basis.
Instructors expected to teach graduate-level courses in on-site or online format, facilitate applied learning, assess student performance, and contribute to continuous improvement aligned with program outcomes and industry standards.
Candidates with a strong background in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply:
- Design Studio (all levels)
- Design Theory
- Design Visualization Technology and software (BIM, Sketch Up, AutoCAD)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESFacilitate engaging, practice-oriented learning (case studies, studios, seminars, team projects) in an on-site or online environment and provide graduate-level academic mentorship to students. Faculty must be committed to understanding the DI philosophy and supporting its Mission, Goals, and Learning Outcomes. Faculty must abide by the institutional policies and procedures as set forth in the Faculty Handbook and Academic Catalog.
QUALIFICATIONSCandidates must have:
a minimum of a master’s degree in interior design or related field;
at least 1 year of college-level teaching experience;
2+ years of professional experience in interior design or architecture
Preferred Qualifications Include:- demonstrated record of excellence in college-level teaching, scholarship, and/or professional practice; and
- NCIDQ, NCARB, LEED AP, WELL AP, Fitwell, or other relevant certifications*.
* Faculty are expected to maintain their licenses and any appropriate certifications as a condition of continued part-time/adjunct appointment at DI.
SALARY$ 2,300 - $ 4,600 stipend rates per course commensurate with qualifications and experience.
WORK ENVIRONMENTFor courses conducted on campus, work is performed in a standard classroom environment. Work involves physical demands associated with a traditional classroom setting, e.g., walking, standing, communicating, and other physical functions as necessary. Physical requirements of this position include the following: carrying, near and mid-range vision, visual accommodation, hearing, handling, lifting up to 20 pounds, balancing, field of vision, depth perception, and talking.
For courses conducted online, work is performed in online classroom environment. Physical requirements of this position include the following: near and mid-range vision, visual accommodation, hearing, field of vision, depth perception, and verbal communication.
