Position Overview

San Diego Community College District accepts applications for adjunct (part‑time/substitute) positions for our three college campuses (City, Mesa, Miramar) and various continuing education centers on a continuous basis. Applicants will be placed in the adjunct pool for possible assignments in the fall, spring, and/or summer semesters of the academic year. Hiring departments will contact eligible candidates when positions become available.

Assignments may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, and/or off‑campus classes. Positions are as‑needed and applicants should live within commuting distance to San Diego.

Major Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in lecture, lab, or combined settings as determined by the department.
  • Be available to students outside of class.
  • Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
  • Maintain appropriate professional conduct and ethics.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
  • Teach all scheduled classes.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Create and maintain an environment that encourages teaching, learning, and free discussion of ideas, interests and issues.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught, OR
  • Associate degree and at least six years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught, OR
  • Possession of a full‑time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject matter, OR
  • The equivalent.
Desired Qualifications
  • Graduation from a JCAPO approved program for Ophthalmic Technician.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician.
  • IJCAPO Registered Ophthalmic Ultrasound Biometrist.
Licenses / Certifications

Full‑time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject matter.

Equivalency

If you do not possess the exact degrees listed above or will receive them prior to the start of teaching classes, complete the “Request for Equivalency Form” and attach it during the application process. Foreign degree holders must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of NACES or ACEI and submit the evaluation.

Special Instructions to Applicants
  • Submit official college transcripts as stated on the application.
  • Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam for initial appointment (renewed every four years).
  • Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer at the district’s expense; clearance must be received prior to the first day of employment.
  • Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
Pay Information

At the time an offer is made, salary placement is contingent upon receipt of official transcripts and verifications of previous work experience. Initial placement will be at the first class/step until documentation is submitted.
