The School of Social Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Computational Social Science and Cognitive Science, anticipated start date July 1, 2026. Joint appointment in the Computational Social Science Program and the Cognitive Science Department within the Division of Social Sciences.
Teaching responsibilities include delivering introductory undergraduate courses (CSS 1, 2, 100) on Python, statistics, and machine learning; developing new courses; teaching graduate M.S. program courses; and leading a summer “bootcamp” for incoming graduate students. In the Cognitive Science Department, duties will comprise courses in machine learning, data science, and computational modeling of cognition.
Applicants should have strong expertise in large‑language models, computer‑vision models, deep neural networks, or related AI/ML fields, with a focus on human or social aspects of implementation, training, design, understanding, and ethics.
Candidates are encouraged to demonstrate community‑building and outreach accomplishments, and a desire to lead initiatives that advance UC San Diego’s commitments to academic excellence and community leadership.
Qualifications Basic qualifications (required)Ph.D. or ABD in computational social science or a relevant field.
