Observational Air-Sea Interactions – Assistant Professor (SIO, UC San Diego)
The Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at the University of California San Diego invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in Observational Air-Sea Interactions. The successful candidate will establish a vigorous research program and provide intellectual leadership while complementing existing expertise at SIO and other UC San Diego departments.
Salary: A reasonable salary range estimate for this position is $119,300–$139,100. The posted UC Academic salary scales set the minimum pay as determined by rank and/or step base salary range, from the salary table(s), for this position is $80,800–$104,700. Off‑scale salaries and other components of pay are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience. Next review date:

- Develop a strong extramurally supported research program.
- Contribute to teaching, mentoring, and advising for the Climate – Ocean – Atmosphere Program (graduate students) and the Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences major (undergraduates).
- Engage in service within SIO and UC San Diego.
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Applicants are required to have a PhD in Physical Oceanography, Atmospheric Science, or a related discipline, or to be enrolled in a PhD program in those fields with an expected graduation date no later than July 1 2026.
Preferred candidates will have a competitive record of publication and service, and evidence of strong potential to secure extramural funding and conduct an active research program while contributing to impactful undergraduate and graduate teaching.
