The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting for a Project Specialist, Biliteracy for the Multilingual Education and Global Achievement Department (MEGA) of the Learning and Leadership Services Division. The Project Specialist for Literacy will work with SDCOE staff to plan and provide bilingual language arts professional development for schools and districts, guide teachers and coaches on differentiated and focused literacy support for under-resourced students and promote effective language arts interventions and student acceleration initiatives in classrooms, small groups, and individualized settings.
This position is grant funded through June 2026.
The Multilingual Education and Global Achievement (MEGA) team provides innovative, high-quality programmatic, leadership, and professional learning services to schools and districts that are grounded in evidence-based practices. MEGA develops systems-thinking educators and leaders who strategically build capacity within their organizations to ensure equity and access, and improve outcomes for all students, but especially students who are American Indian/Native American, multilingual, English Learners, AND immigrants/refugees.
Responsibilities- Plan and provide language arts professional development for schools and districts,
- Guide teachers and coaches on differentiated and focused literacy support for under-resourced students,
- Promote effective language arts interventions and student acceleration initiatives in a variety of classrooms, small groups, and individualized settings, including bilingual programs,
- Facilitate assistance for schools and districts served by the Project ARISE (Accelerating Reading Intervention for Systemic Excellence) grant across California, especially in settings with multilingual students/English learners,
- Collaborate with SDCOE staff to support implementation of biliteracy initiatives and ensure alignment with grant objectives.
- Combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in education, education administration, or another closely related field
- Five (5) years of increasingly responsible teaching experience in an educational setting
- Proven success designing and conducting professional learning sessions in a variety of educational settings, particularly in high-poverty, high-need schools with diverse student populations
- Experience or expertise in bilingualism and biliteracy is preferred; experience supporting dual language teachers and bilingual program settings is valuable
- Valid California Teaching Credential
- Preferred: BLCAD or other bilingual authorization
- Resume detailing education and experience as it relates to this position
- Letter of Introduction
- Two (2) Letters of Recommendation dated within the last year
- Copy of valid teaching credential as issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
- Copy of valid BCLAD or other bilingual authorization as issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (or copy of Certificate of Eligibility)
- Copy of transcript verifying bachelor’s degree or higher in education, education administration, or other closely related field
