Position Description

The Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) at UC San Diego invites applications for a full‑time 9‑month tenure‑track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. We seek candidates who integrate marine observations and geological or geochemical methodologies to address research questions in paleoceanography, paleo climate, or geological oceanography. A particular interest is in expertise in the geochemical analysis of marine, terrestrial, or ice core archives to enhance institutional programs in oceanography and climate sciences.

The successful candidate will develop a vigorous externally funded research program, provide intellectual leadership, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Geochemistry, Marine Chemistry, or Geoscience, and participate in inclusive teaching practices. Graduate supervision, mentoring, and service to the department and broader discipline are required.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent in oceanography, marine geology, geochemistry, climate science, or a related field.

Preferred qualifications: Competitive publication record, evidence of ability or strong potential to secure extramural funding, active research program, and impactful undergraduate and graduate teaching experience.
