Instructional Assistant
Work hours:
30-34 hours/week Approximate schedule: 7:30am-2:30pm M, T, TH, F 7:30am-2pm - W

The job of the Instructional Assistant is to support students' academic and/or behavioral needs. The Instructional Assistant supports the teacher in ensuring student safety and student engagement. The Instructional Assistant is also responsible for enforcing disciplinary policies and regulations; communicating observations and incidents to other school personnel that may impact the welfare, safety, and/or security of students, personnel, visitors and the school site.
Essential job functions:
* Provides instructional support to students as needed under the direction of the classroom teacher
* Provides behavioral support to students and helps students to self-regulate. Uses protocols to de-escalate a child.
* Monitors students during lunch periods and recesses within a variety of school environments, (i.e. restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, classrooms, library, bus stops, cafeteria, and adjacent areas) for the purpose of providing for the safety and welfare of students.
* Informs students, personnel and the general public as appropriate for the purpose of ensuring their understanding of school regulations and policies.
* Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
* Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (i.e. discipline, accidents, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to teachers and administration. Other job functions:
* When appropriate, administers playground equipment for the purpose of providing equipment necessary for activities.
* Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
* Assists teachers for the purpose of implementing lesson plans.
* Performs record keeping and basic clerical functions, scheduling, copying, etc. for the purpose of supporting the teacher in maintaining student files and providing classroom materials.
* Translates documents from English to Spanish as needed
* Supervises students before school and during recess Job requirements - qualifications:
* Knowledge and/or abilities required:
• Skill to use English in both written and verbal form and make common sense decisions.
• Knowledge of campus and student safety.
• Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, understand oral and written instruction.
• Experience working with elementary age students
• Experience working with students with Special Needs
• Experience with Restorative Practices and/or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports
• Bilingual in English/Spanish
