Under the supervision of the Sports & Recreation Manager, trainers will work with youth of various ages. Trainers must have the ability and desire to work with children, parents, volunteers, and peers. Trainers will supervise and assist in activities for personal training sessions with children ranging from 30 minutes to an hour. Trainers ensure the safety and well-being of players while they are in their care.

• To know, explain and exemplify the mission, purpose, and values of the Kroc Center and The Salvation Army (TSA).
• Assist in the leading of all sports and recreation activities with enthusiasm – according to training protocol.
• Adhere to and implement discipline procedures created for the program.
• Keep player issues – Do not share issues with other players, parents, news organizations, volunteers, or staff members who are not involved.
• Adhere to dress code at all times.
• Return program equipment to appropriate designated area upon completion of activity with group unless otherwise arranged.
• Communicate respectfully with peers, supervisors, and customers of various socio-economic backgrounds.
• Handle disputes with participants and parents in a professional manner with guidance from Leadership.
• Ensure the safe use of the facility and execution of activities through enforcement of facility and activity‑specific regulations and ensuring that only registered players participate.
• Maintain a safe working environment; report any and all facility defects/problems and any suspicious activities or persons to appropriate authorities.
• Assist in emergencies or treatment of injured – Follow up with completion of appropriate paperwork as directed.
• Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and regulations.
• Recognize the spiritual need of individuals, which may require referral to the officer/pastor who is an ordained minister of The Salvation Army.
• Create and implement tailored training plans for sessions that are specific to the child’s needs.
• Communicate and guide participants towards their sports goals during the allotted times.
• Attentive to participants and adaptive to their sports goals during the duration of each session.

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to lift up to 10lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone.

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
• Must have ability to work and relate well with people.
• Must attend staff, child safety, and other trainings as directed.
• Must have a philosophy of education, child, and player development which is consistent with that of The Salvation Army Kroc Center.
• Ability to lift & carry up to 40lbs.

• Must have the ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling, and education including but not limited to:
• Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages. Ability to use appropriate positive discipline consistently. Ability to handle security and crisis situations calmly.
• Ability to provide constant and continual supervision.
• Ability to engage and maintain a child's interest in activities.
