The School of Theatre, Television, and Film (TTF) at San Diego State University is seeking a candidate for a full-time (academic year)
Artist in Residence position to begin Spring 2027
. This position is temporary and subject to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the California State University system and the California Faculty Association.

This position will require 15 units per semester of teaching and directing workload at the undergraduate and graduate level and may include classes in performance as well as special topics in musical theatre including:

  • Team-teaching the graduate performance studio
  • Teaching a series of graduate seminars in musical theatre stage direction
  • Teaching undergraduate performance classes
  • Directing musical productions in the School’s theatre season

The candidate will mentor a small group of graduate students within a two-year terminal degree program. The successful candidate will demonstrate significant directing experience and teaching experience at the collegiate level.

Applicants are required to have:

  • MFA or BFA with substantial equivalent professional experience.
  • Significant professional experience as a musical theatre stage director
  • Record of university-level teaching
  • Demonstrated potential for research/creative activity excellence
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population

The Lecturer (Academic Year) classification salary is $5,507 to $13,224/per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $6,417 to $6,750/per month.
