Position descriptionPart‑time non‑tenure track lectureships with the Public Service Minor at Thurgood Marshall College, UC San Diego. Instructors will teach two or more sections of TMC 15:
Public Service in America, a required course for the Public Service Minor. Public Service in America studies the history and current role of public service in the United States and introduces students to the roles in government, business, and nonprofit/public service, encouraging critical analysis.
- Teaching evaluations may be requested if the applicant is selected as a top candidate.
Sponsored by Thurgood Marshall College, the Public Service minor encourages all UC San Diego students to understand the history and practices of public service. With coursework and opportunities focused on the history, emergence, and importance of public service work, students in the minor obtain valuable experience and a deeper understanding of the field.
Through the pursuit of the minor, students will supplement their educational careers with a service‑learning experience that offers a unique avenue of growth in preparation for the future.

QualificationsBasic qualifications (required at time of application)
- Pursuing a higher education in Public Administration, Education, Ethnic Studies, Public Health, Sociology, or another pertinent field.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
- Master’s or terminal degree in Public Administration, Education, Ethnic Studies, Public Health, Sociology, or another pertinent field (by start date).
Preferred qualifications
- Demonstrated significant experience teaching courses in a university setting.
- Demonstrated strong leadership or commitment to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in an academic setting.
