Job Title and Location

Adjunct Faculty – Political Science, University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC), San Diego, CA

UMGC seeks adjunct faculty to teach on‑site in the Political Science program.

• Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed and conveys genuine enthusiasm for learning.
• Guide students in active collaboration and application of learning in problem‑ and project‑based learning demonstrations.
• Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, using rubrics effectively for the assessment of student work and acknowledging accomplishments.
• Demonstrate relevant and current subject‑matter expertise and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
• Provide feedback to the program chair on possible curricular improvements.

• Masters degree in Political Science or related field from an accredited institution.
• Professional experience in Political Science, application of political theory, American government, international relations, or related field.
• Prior teaching experience required.
• Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education strongly preferred.

• Professional experience in homeland security, counter terrorism, or related topics.
• Professional experience in domestic governmental operations, administrative policy, or related topics.

Salary commensurate with experience; hourly rates range from $806 to $1,645 per credit hour depending on rank and degree level.

• Health coverage: medical, vision, dental, prescription plans for individuals and families. Adjuncts are not eligible for state subsidized rates.
