Annualized Compensation

$50,000 - $55,000

Summary Description

The Library Assistant is responsible for providing a safe and quiet study environment for students and faculty of the Bishop’s community. Duties include circulation, shelf maintenance, and support of ongoing library projects while staffing the library from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm throughout the year.

Essential Functions and

Specific Duties
  • Opens and closes the library building, manages access to classrooms, secures the building, and reports facility issues.
  • Ensures a safe, neat, quiet, and welcoming library environment, including submission of work requests and managing student behavior.
  • Serves as primary contact for parents and other school staff.
  • Assists the Library Director with cataloging print and digital materials.
  • Processes and repairs library materials, making them ready for use.
  • Collaborates with and directs parent volunteers on library projects and circulation desk duties.
  • Provides readers’ advisory and reference services.
  • Offers engaging library programs such as chess, book clubs, board games, and reading contests.
  • Circulates library materials, laptops, and other equipment; tracks missing items and notifies students.
  • Maintains library media lab equipment, ensuring readiness for use.
  • Provides instruction or support in media lab technologies including podcasting, filming, and sound recording.
  • Works with the team on other duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • High school diploma required; college degree in Library and Information Sciences or related field preferred.
  • At least one year of library experience, ideally in a school or public library.
  • Experience working with adolescents preferred.
  • Knowledge of media equipment preferred.
  • Experience with OPAC (library catalog) strongly preferred.
  • Basic library cataloging skills and familiarity with DDC classification a plus.
  • Experience providing instruction or support in media lab technologies such as podcasting, filming, or sound recording a plus.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Google Workspace and aptitude for learning new technology.
