Biological Sciences:
Contract Instructor – College Credit
San Diego Miramar College seeks a Contract Instructor to teach introductory biology courses, support curriculum development, and mentor students. The position is FLSA exempt, full‑time (40 hrs per week), and requires teaching biology courses at the college level.
Responsibilities- Teach introductory general and organismal biology courses to the standards of the department and college.
- Participate in biology department meetings and governance committees.
- Assist with curriculum revision and course/program assessments.
- Collaborate with all college faculty and staff.
- Maintain office hours and mentor/advise students.
- Fulfill the responsibilities of a community college instructor in accordance with district policies and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Master’s degree in any biological science, or a Bachelor’s in any biological science and a Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science.
- Equivalent educational credentials.
- Evidence of recent professional development related to teaching and learning in biology.
- Experience teaching biological science courses at the college level.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Applicants without the exact required degrees may submit a Request for Equivalency form.
- Foreign degrees must be evaluated by an agency that is a member of NACES or ACEI and the evaluation must be submitted with the application.
Initial salary is commensurate with education and experience as outlined in the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. SDCCD offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package, including employer‑paid medical, dental, vision, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. The position is exempt from overtime. Travel reimbursement is available for interviewees traveling more than 200 mi.
