Adjunct Faculty – Fine Arts, Art, or Art History

The Position

Part‑time faculty positions offer flexible hours and the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students. The San Diego Community College District—one of the largest in California—provides a wide range of programs. These positions are as‑needed and applicants should live within commuting distance to San Diego. Assignments may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, and/or off‑campus classes.

Working Conditions
:
Variable, depending on assignment.

Major Responsibilities
  • Teach lecture and lab classes as assigned.
  • Be available to students outside of class.
  • Provide instruction in accordance with established curriculum and course outlines.
  • Maintain professional conduct and ethics.
  • Keep current knowledge of subject matter.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Create a learning environment that encourages discussion.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Fine Arts, Art, or Art History from a regionally accredited institution.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Art, or Art History and a Master’s degree in Humanities from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds.
Desired Qualifications
  • Equivalent foreign degrees evaluated by a professional association member of NACES or ACEI.
  • California Community College Instructor Credential in Fine and Applied Arts and Related Technologies (valid for life).
  • Other relevant certifications, credentials, or experience.

Conditions of Employment
  • Submission of official college transcripts.
  • Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam, renewed every 4 years.
  • Fingerprint clearance via Live Scan before first day of employment.
