The San Diego Unified School District is currently accepting applications for the position of In-School Resource Teacher assigned to Chavez Elementary. This opportunity is open to all interested candidates.

    • Summative and formative assessment practices.
    • Developing and facilitating professional development, coaching, and the Science of Reading.

Please note, this is a temporarily funded position for the  School Year. While current probationary and permanent employees will be excessed when funding ends, employment for the following year is not guaranteed for temporary employees.

Examples of Duties:

The In-School Resource Teacher assigned to support Chavez Elementary will support the site’s TK-5th grade school literacy plan in both English Only and Dual Language program. The candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the school’s literacy plan including coaching, co‑teaching, modeling, co‑planning, and providing small group interventions.

Incumbent will be expected to:
  • Use data-driven approaches to identify and support students in need.
  • Offer direct, push-in supplemental small group reading support and tier 2 intervention.
  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to ensure seamless continuity of instruction.
  • Increase access to evidence-based literacy instruction.
  • Use Heggerty to strengthen foundational skills in Phonemic Awareness.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Engage in lesson modeling, co-planning, and co-teaching with our general education teachers.
  • Build the capacity of school teams to identify and support all novice readers, including those displaying signs of dyslexia.
  • Implement differentiated reading strategies and culturally responsive teaching practices to support all students, including English language learners, students with disabilities, socioeconomically disadvantaged students, and gifted students.
  • Establish an evidence-based family literacy initiative with a comprehensive plan that outlines literacy and biliteracy goals for all family members.
  • Provide parent workshops during and after school hours.
