Pay Information:

Range 24 ($5,350.77 - $7,026.74) per month based on the current AFT Classified Professionals
- Salary Schedule.

  • New employees will begin on Step E ($5,350.77).
  • Salary negotiation is not allowed.
  • Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the CBA.
  • This position is FLSA Non-exempt (may accrue overtime).
  • Excellent benefits are provided to all Contract employees with assignments greater than, or equal to, 50% (0.50 FTE) and all eligible dependents.
  • A temporary probationary period will apply to the employee entering this assignment.

Applications are currently being accepted for a position, Instructional Lab Technician / Biology, in the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, located at San Diego Mesa College. This position will support general biology laboratory instruction with an emphasis on anatomy and some physiology courses. The position also is responsible for maintaining our prosectorium. Hours are Monday-Friday; 40 hours per week. Selected candidate must be willing to adjust work days/hours based on the department's needs.

Qualifications:
  • Significant upper division coursework or a bachelor's degree in general biology OR anatomy OR physiology or a closely related field; OR additional two years of relevant work experience, preferred.
  • Demonstrated competence in laboratory techniques and using and maintaining equipment commonly required for community college laboratories in general biology OR anatomy OR physiology.
  • Demonstrated competence in the application of laboratory safety guidelines involving the preparation and handling of materials and chemicals used in anatomy OR physiology labs, including proper handling, storage and disposal of chemical, biological, and hazardous wastes.
  • Demonstrated competence working with and maintaining cadavers and embalming materials.
  • The skill to order, receive, organize and inventory supplies, as well as the ability to plan and organize to meet work schedules and deadlines for multiple course sections.
  • The ability to train, direct and provide support for laboratory professionals and student staff.
  • The utilization of standard office and web-based technology applications as needed or required.
