Position description

The Department of Pharmacology in the School of Medicine at UC San Diego is committed to academic excellence among its faculty, staff, and student body and invites applications for Tenured faculty positions at the rank of Associate Professor and Full Professor.

The Department of Pharmacology has extensive collaborations within the School of Medicine, Moores Cancer Center, Jacobs School of Engineering, and the Skaggs School of Pharmacy, and with other partners across the UC San Diego campus and the surrounding biomedical community. These partnerships are fundamental to establishing productive interactions and collaborations which can potentially lead to secondary appointments in and affiliations with other departments, including the Department of Medicine, School of Medicine, and the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center.

The successful applicants will join a growing and vibrant department and research environment that values creativity and collaboration.

The focus of this search is in the broad area of Immunology. Specific areas of interest include immunology and tumor immunity; autoimmunity; neuroimmunology; chronic inflammation; rheumatology; cancer biology; cancer immunotherapy; mucosal immunology and microbiome-immune interactions; the neuroimmune interface; genomics; and intracellular imaging and tool development, including multiomics and computational methods, as well as basic and translational investigation of human diseases, with emphasis on cancer, neuroimmune, and autoimmune diseases.

The successful candidates will actively contribute to a rapidly growing immunology research program at UC San Diego and our affiliated organizations, including the La Jolla Institute of Immunology (LJI) and San Diego State University (SDSU).

The successful candidates actively participate in educational programs for Graduate and Health Sciences students and contribute to the graduate program in Pharmacological Sciences, including teaching graduate-level lab and lecture courses. The successful candidates will also help develop new didactic or laboratory courses or seminar series, jointly with other faculty.

Appointment will be at the Associate or Full Professor rank and will be based on the candidate's background and experience. The series will be 100% Ladder Rank (Tenured).

Qualifications Basic qualifications
  • Candidates must have an MD or equivalent, an MD/PhD, or a PhD in health sciences, immunology, or a related field.
  • Candidates must have 5+ years of experience in leading a clinical, translational, and/or basic research program, and an independent extramurally funded research program (e.g., NIH R01 or similar).
  • Candidates must have 5+ years of research experience with publications in high-impact journals.
  • Candidates must also have a 5+ year track record of teaching and/or mentorship activities.
Preferred qualifications
  • Candidates with 1+ grants and/or publications in immunology research are preferred.
