UC ANR invites applications for a 4‑H Youth Development Advisor to develop, deliver, and evaluate a program of STEAM youth development for San Diego and Imperial Counties, fostering leadership, career awareness, and workforce preparedness. The role integrates research and extension education, supports county‑based staff, volunteers, and community partners.

• Design and implement an innovative extension education and applied research program focused on youth participation in STEAM activities.
• Increase youth access and engagement in STEAM to build skills, creativity, and leadership.
• Provide academic leadership for the 4‑H community club program and other 4‑H delivery models.
• Conduct applied research related to a STEAM subject area with State 4‑H staff and partners.
• Develop and evaluate youth development programs in school‑based and out‑of‑school settings.
• Apply and assess youth development quality within STEAM programming.
• Establish partnerships with stakeholders such as school districts, youth centers on military bases, nonprofits, county agencies, farms, fair boards, colleges, and universities.

The position is headquartered in UCCE San Diego but will also have activity in Imperial County and support 4‑H educators in both counties.

Reports to the UCCE Area Director for San Diego and Imperial Counties and programmatically to the 4‑H Statewide Director. The role requires onsite presence at headquarters and travel to other counties as needed.

• Master’s degree in youth development, education, or a STEAM‑related discipline at the time of appointment.
• Experience in applied research, program evaluation, and youth education programs.
• Record of research or outreach publications.
• Leadership skills and experience managing programs and personnel.
• Valid California driver’s license and liability insurance for vehicle use; proof of insurance required.
• Background investigation, FBI, DOJ, and CANRA clearance required.
• No sponsorship available for work visas; must be authorized to work in the U.S. for the entire term.
• Must be willing to travel flexibly and not work remotely.

• Provide evidence of appointment criteria per UC Academic Personnel Manuals.
• Interest in a career in UC Cooperative Extension.
• Deep understanding of STEAM and ability to design impactful programs.
• Sensitivity to cultural differences and ability to work with diverse youth and adults.
• Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and IT communication skills.
• Collaboration, teamwork, and flexibility with stakeholders and internal partners.
• Commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth.
• Disclosure of prior misconduct within the last seven years required.

• Experience working with diverse youth populations.
• Spanish language proficiency.
• Ability to engage regional audiences including officials, schools, and agencies.
• Experience with adult volunteers in youth programs.
• Success in securing and managing extramural funding.

Salary Range: Assistant Rank, Step I ($85,600) to Step VI ($108,600), based on experience and qualifications. Salary scales per UC salary scale. Eligible for indefinite status after three reviews.
