Position: Lecturer Department of Psychology (2026-2027)

The Department of Psychology at the University of California, San Diego, is generating an applicant pool of Lecturer Academic Year (Unit 18-Non-Senate Faculty) level instructors to teach courses in the Department of Psychology, on a temporary basis should an opening arise. Applicants will be selected from this pool for teaching throughout the  academic year. The number of positions varies from academic term to academic term, depending on the needs of the Psychology Department.

The positions are in-person and classes will be held on the UC San Diego campus. Candidates must identify the specific course or courses they are applying to teach and quarters they are available. See the full list of courses offered by Psychology can be found in the online course catalog.

We are seeking lecturers who can teach large courses (200 or more students) and small classes (~150 students or fewer). Responsibilities entail the effective instruction of students, teaching classes in accordance with course objectives and published schedules, advising students on academic matters and maintaining an active interest in the advances/current thinking in their subject area.

Additional duties include (but are not limited to) managing Teaching Assistants, holding office hours, assigning grades, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and maintaining a course website. Those teaching large courses are expected to work with, meet with, and mentor graduate student Teaching Assistants.

  • Candidates must be ABD or have a Ph.D. (or equivalent doctoral degree) in Psychology or a closely related field at the time of application submission.
  • Candidates must have prior teaching, research or practice experience relevant to the particular course(s) to which they are applying to teach (teaching experience can be as a teaching assistant).
