The Departments of Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics and Chemistry within the School of Physical Sciences at UC San Diego jointly invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in structural biochemistry, with an emphasis on cryo-electron microscopy, membrane protein biochemistry, molecular machines, and the development of biochemical, biophysical, and/or chemical biology approaches to macromolecular structure, function, and mechanism.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead an interdisciplinary research group in one or more of these areas, engage in collaborations across various departments at UC San Diego, and benefit from wide-ranging institutional facilities for structural biochemistry, including the UCSD cryo-EM Facility, the UCSD X-Ray Crystallography Facility, the UCSD NMR Facility, and the Biomolecular and Proteomics Mass Spectrometry Facility.
Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to develop a recognized program of excellence in both teaching and research. Teaching in biochemistry, chemical biology, and related topics will be expected. Ideally, the candidate will have skills and interest in teaching lecture and lab courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, Chemical Biology, or a closely related field.
