Job Description:
Join a team of talented Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Instructors are looking for someone passionate about providing high qualitySTEM experiences for all students,and promoting equal opportunity for underrepresented and underserved students.
A Learning2 Instructor will be responsible for the instruction of a science and literacy program that takes place at various elementary schools within the Lincoln Cluster. Lessons consist of read-alouds, word work, hands-on activities, and more.
Together wearedeveloping and inspiring the next generation of San Diego’sSTEM literate community. Classes are taught at neighboring elementary schools, and the position requires transportation of materials between the schools and EIS, as well as communication with teachers about the program. Examples of hands-on learning activities include making a battery, demonstrating balanced and unbalanced forces, and using precision scales.

- Can professionally represent the organization
- Flexibility and good communication skills as schools can have unexpected events
- Experience teaching early elementary students
- Enjoys working with kids
- Strong classroom management, able to control a classroom of young children working on hands-on projects, a "warm-strict" approach is ideal.
- Willingness to learn about best practices in science instruction and aspects of literacy instruction
- Enjoyment of science and willingness to learn science concepts, or a background in science
- Working vehicle with ability to transport materials and lift up to 20lbs
Qualifications & Requirements
- The candidate for this position must meet the following criteria:
- Must have or be pursuing a B.A./B.S. in a STEM discipline (Life Science, Physical Science, Earth Science, Engineering, Computer Sciences, Math, or other), Education, or related field
- Must like working with children ages 7-14
- Must have good judgement and critical thinking skills
- Punctual and reliable
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
- Teaching experience in a classroom, after school, science center, or other informal education setting is preferred
- Professional demeanor and work ethic
- Ability to implement STEM lesson plans
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
