The Department of Communication at the University of San Diego, housed within the College of Arts and Sciences offers a diverse curriculum that approaches communication as the primary social process that gives meaning to our lived experiences. Communication at USD teaches undergraduate students to become competent in analyzing the construction, reception and effectiveness of messages to forge and maintain individual identity and collective organization.

The USD Department of Communication seeks applications for part-time lecturers for the following courses for Fall 2026 (in-person modality beginning September 1, 2026).

• COMM 455:
  Interviewing and Negotiation
• T/TH 14:30-15:50pm
• COMM 462:
  Political Communication
• TUES 18:00-20:50pm

When applying, you may indicate interest in one or more of the positions listed above. Please note specific days and meeting times. Lecturers may teach up to 6 units (faculty load) per semester.

This position is included in the Non-tenure Track Bargaining Unit, and the successful applicant employee, subject to the terms of the College’s Collective Bargaining will be a bargaining unit member and will be subject to the University’s Agreement with SEIU Local 721.

Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.

• Master’s degree in communication or closely related field completed at the time of appointment
• Demonstrated experience teaching at the university level
• Ability to teach courses and hold office hours in person.
• Evidence of effective teaching

• PhD in communication
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach both lower and upper division courses in communication.

Compensation for this position will be paid on a bi-weekly basis at a per-unit rate of $2,581-$2,659, commensurate with qualifications.

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
