Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, the Assistant Coordinator is a dual-role, entry-level professional position within the Residential Education Office and Campus Life subdivision in the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity. This training position provides hands‑on experience in residential life, student engagement, and co‑curricular programming. The incumbent supports residence hall operations, including front desk management, student staff coordination, community safety, and housing processes such as opening and closing.

The Assistant Coordinator also supports student development initiatives through programming, advising, and outreach efforts that promote leadership, inclusion, and academic success, while gaining practical experience in student affairs.

• Support residence hall operations and front desk services
• Assist with student staff supervision and development
• Plan and implement programs and student engagement initiatives
• Advise student leaders and support student organizations
• Respond to incidents and uphold community standards
• Provide student support, mentorship, and resource referrals

• Must be enrolled full‑time in a graduate program during employment
• Required to live in on‑campus housing as a condition of the role
• May be required to work evenings and weekends

• This is a full‑time (1.0 time‑base), benefits eligible, temporary position with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2027, with the possibility of reappointment.
• This appointment is for an 11/12 pay‑plan position. The incumbent works 11 months per year and is paid over 12 months, with June 2027 as the anticipated off month.
• This position is designated as non‑exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.
• Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
• The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

The Campus Life subdivision is committed to working closely with the Postsecondary Educational Leadership with an emphasis on Student Affairs master’s program to cultivate professional, experiential learning opportunities for graduate students. This training position is intended to provide a robust, hybrid experience within Campus Life at SDSU, ultimately preparing student affairs professionals while enhancing student services.
