Position description

The Jacobs School of Engineering at UCSD has multiple opportunities for temporary, non-tenure track lecturers (Unit 18) in our Masters of Advanced Studies (MAS) Degree Programs. Unit 18 Lecturers are governed by the Memorandum of Understanding (Contract | UCnet). We seek applicants to teach at the graduate level in the master's degree programs Convergent Systems Engineering (CoSE) or the Architecture-Based Enterprise Systems Engineering (AESE).

Additional Responsibilities Of The Unit 18 Lecturer Will Include
  • Grading:
    Lecturers are responsible for turning in grades and other student records by the assigned due date.
  • Feedback:
    Lecturers should provide constructive feedback to students. They may also advise students on academic matters.
  • Other responsibilities:

    Lecturers may be required to supervise teaching assistants, keep office hours, and respond to inquiries from students, departments, and other university personnel. They may also be asked to guide senior students in their independent study research.
Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Master's degree in Engineering, or a related field and 2 years of industry experience may be substituted for the degree requirment.
Additional Qualifications (required At Time Of Start)
  • Minimum of one quarter or semester teaching one or more courses, either as Instructor of Record or as a Teaching Assistant. Equivalent industry experience such as a minimum presenting one or more seminars, or conducting one or more trainings may be substituted for teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of one quarter or semester teaching at the graduate level.
  • PhD in Engineering or related field.
