Assistant Professor of Biliteracy Education (Spanish-English)

$89,000 - $94,000, based on the CSU salary schedule.

The Department of Dual Language and English Learner Education at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in biliteracy education, with an appointment beginning in August 2027.

The successful candidate will lead biliteracy initiatives, teaching biliteracy credential courses and conducting biliteracy research, and will advance the department's commitment to equity and to linguistic and social justice through teaching, scholarship and community engagement.

The appointment is an Instructional Faculty position (Unit 3 - CFA) and includes a benefits package.

Required at the time of application

• A record of original research, scholarly accomplishments and/or grant funding.
• Demonstrated expertise in biliteracy teaching, studies and methodologies.
• Capacity to develop an independent research programme, teach courses and engage in service.
• Spanish-English bilingualism and biliteracy.
• K-12 teaching experience and experience with multilingual students, families and communities.
• Accomplishments that meet the inclusive excellence criteria.

Required at the time of hire
:
Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education or a related field.

Preferred

• California teaching credential with three years of TK-6th grade experience.
• Evidence of institutional collaborations.
• International or transborder education experience.
• Expertise in translanguaging and culturally sustaining pedagogies.
• University teaching experience and the ability to direct graduate student research.
