Position Overview
CIVIL SERVICE REVIEW-CE/VOC:
Adjunct / Substitute Instructor POOL (non-credit)
Location:
District Wide (includes City, Mesa, Miramar campuses)
Labor classification:
Adjunct faculty, part‑time/temporary, exempt status. Salary determined by the Adjunct College Salary Schedule based on official transcripts or foreign degree evaluations.
Applicants are placed in a continuous adjunct pool for potential assignments across district campuses and continuing education centers. The pool is opened as needed, and applicants must meet minimum qualifications and reside within commuting distance to San Diego. Application files are retained for one year; applicants will be notified annually to reapply if they wish to remain in the pool.
Major Responsibilities- Teach lecture and lab courses as scheduled by the department.
- Be available to students outside of class hours.
- Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
- Keep accurate attendance and academic records.
- Create an environment that encourages discussion and learning.
- Teach all scheduled classes.
- Bachelor’s degree AND two (2) years of occupational experience in the subject area, OR Associate degree AND six (6) years of occupational experience, OR equivalent.
- Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse continuing education student populations.
- Equivalency documentation for foreign degrees (evaluated by a NACES or ACEI member).
All applicants must have demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and classified professionals.
Conditions of Employment- Submit official college transcripts at the time of offer (even if a degree is not a requirement).
- Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Examination (renewed every four years).
- Have a fingerprint Live Scan background check completed prior to the first day of employment.
- Present original documents proving eligibility to work in the United States.
