The San Diego Unified School District is currently accepting applications for the position of English as a Second Language Assistant (ESL) at San Diego High School. This opportunity is open to all interested candidates.

The English as a Second Language (ESL) Assistant will provide assistance to the E.S.L. instructional program in school classrooms and in "pull-out" situations.

• Work Schedule: 10 months per year / 20 hours per week.
• Salary: This position is paid on thePARASalary Schedule. Grade 20. To view the Salary Schedule,  .
• Positions 20 hours per week or greater qualify for District-paid health and wellness benefits for the employee and their eligible dependents.
• Vacancies that require the incumbent to be Bilingual will be noted. Candidates considered for positions that require bilingual skills will be invited to a Performance Test (Qualifying Only) for oral and written fluency. Bilingual positions qualify for a 5% bilingual differential.

High School diploma/GED and a passing score on the San Diego Unified School District Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (CAPE) or an Associate’s degree (or higher) or 48 or more eligible units of coursework at a recognized college or university. Completion of post high school courses in Psychology, Early Childhood Development, Elementary Education, Special Education, or related field is desirable.

Personal appearance and language patterns will provide a satisfactory example to pupils. Some positions may require conversational and/or written skills in a specific foreign language related to the needs of the assignment.

The examination process includes an application screening and evaluation based on the applicant's education, work history, and responses to the application questions. Only applicants whose application packet demonstrates a combined education and experience which meets the minimum requirements for the position will be considered qualified and advance in the process.
