Under the general supervision of a Caltrans Electrical Supervisor or with lead direction by a Caltrans Electrician II, the Caltrans Electrician I is responsible for repairing highway lighting and electrical power circuits to various State equipment. This classification requires a valid Class C driver’s license; a Class A or B driver’s license is desirable. The incumbent works individually or with others and operates highway maintenance equipment and vehicles.
The incumbent may be required to work overtime including nights and weekends, may be required to work temporary and intermittent shifts, and is expected to respond to emergency calls. May be loaned to another crew. The position may require out‑of‑town travel, usually in week‑long increments. This position is considered the first journey level for this class series. This position is represented under collective bargaining.
- Repair highway lighting and electrical power circuits for State equipment.
- Operate highway maintenance equipment and vehicles.
- Work overtime, including nights and weekends, and respond to emergency calls.
- May be loaned to another crew and perform out‑of‑town travel.
- Work under the general supervision of a Caltrans Electrical Supervisor or lead direction by a Caltrans Electrician II.
- The position(s) require(s) a drug screening be passed prior to being hired.
- This classification requires a valid Class ‘C’ driver’s license.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.
