Job Description & How to Apply Below
ABOUT THE JOB
In this role, you will lead and execute the design, development, and evaluation of next-generation RFID sensor antennas. You will be responsible for the full development lifecycle–from initial simulation-first modeling and multi-element array synthesis to hands-on validation in anechoic environments and site-specific propagation analysis. You will also work closely with cross-functional teams spanning hardware, RF systems, and product engineering to deliver robust, scalable RFID sensor-antenna solutions.
Responsibilities- Design, simulate, and optimize custom RFID sensor antennas, including single-element and multi-element array configurations using electromagnetic simulation software.
- Perform full-wave electromagnetic simulations to evaluate antenna performance metrics including impedance matching, radiation patterns, efficiency, isolation, polarization, and coupling of antenna designs.
- Utilize ray-tracing software (e.g., Remcom’s Wireless In Site ) to predict system performance and signal coverage in complex store environments.
- Conduct precise antenna calibration and performance characterization in an anechoic chamber.
- Oversee the fabrication of PCB-based antennas and seamless integration with RF front-end components.
- Work alongside hardware and software teams to integrate antenna solutions into compact sensor form factors.
Required
- You have a BS degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
- You have 10+ years of relevant industry experience in antenna design and RF systems.
- You have a strong background in electromagnetics and antenna theory.
- You have proven expertise with full-wave electromagnetic simulation tools (e.g., FEKO, HFSS, CST, or similar).
- You have direct experience designing and evaluating multi-element antenna arrays.
- You have experience evaluating, selecting, and integrating commercial antenna products, including managing vendor specifications and hardware validation.
- You have hands-on experience with Vector Network Analyzers and antenna calibration procedures in anechoic chambers.
- You have a strong focus on verification and validation, with expertise in applying rigorous test methodologies to both simulated and measured RF data.
- You have experience correlating system-level performance with physical antenna characteristics.
- You have experience leveraging cloud computing platforms to scale simulation workloads and manage large RF datasets.
- You have a proven track record of successfully delivering commercial wireless products from initial design through to high-volume deployment.
- You have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- You have experience with RF propagation and ray-tracing tools (e.g., Remcom’s Wireless In Site , Altair’s Win Prop, or similar).
- You have familiarity with sensor-integrated or constrained-form-factor antennas.
- You have familiarity with FCC/ETSI standards for wireless devices.
- You have knowledge of scripting or automation (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for simulation workflows and data post-processing.
In your first 30 days, you will
- Learn Radar’s mission, technology stack and core values.
- Complete onboarding and security compliance training.
- Become familiar with existing RFID systems, antenna designs, and simulation workflows.
- Review current measurement setups, calibration procedures, and test methodologies.
- Set up and validate electromagnetic simulation tool chains to ensure alignment with existing models.
- Review RF propagation and ray-tracing tools and help select the most effective simulation tool for our deployment environments.
- Perform baseline antenna measurements and calibration in an anechoic chamber to verify hardware performance.
- Compare simulation results with chamber measurement data to refine model accuracy.
- Set up a comprehensive propagation environment in the chosen RF propagation simulation tool to model real-world deployment scenarios.
- Compare simulated propagation data with real-world field test results to validate system-level predictive models.
- Launch the design phase for next-generation RFID sensor antenna based on the initial findings and system requirements.
