The Undersea Systems Division at Leidos currently has an opening for an Electrical Engineer in San Diego, CA. Candidate will join a fast-paced team working to design and prototype embedded hardware for rugged ocean systems. Candidate will collaborate with a team of engineers to design and prototype embedded hardware, firmware, and software, and will be directly involved in design, development, and testing of system components, including circuit boards, analog and digital sensors, batteries, and power supplies.
Hardware design and layout experience are greatly desired. Candidates will be able to contribute to the team at all stages of design and prototyping, from initial concept development to rapid design and testing efforts, as well as supporting manufacture of engineering prototype systems and planning and executing real-world demonstrations for customers.
- Identify engineering challenges and recommend component and/or system designs to solve them.
- Design, prototype, and test system components in collaboration with project leads and team members.
- Work within multi-disciplinary team of ocean, mechanical, material, and acoustic engineers to successfully integrate prototype components into full-scale engineering prototype systems.
- Contribute to component-level and system-level testing throughout development.
- Conduct research and testing as needed to understand and then correct component-level design and manufacturing flaws when they are found.
- Develop and maintain design and manufacturing documentation and procedures.
- U.S. Citizen
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
- Ability to obtain a SECRET security clearance, or (preferred) an active SECRET security clearance.
- 2+ years of experience in circuit design and CAD layout software (Altium Designer, OrCAD, PADS, etc.).
- 2+ years of experience in detailed design and prototyping of electronic components.
- Knowledge of electronics fabrication and assembly.
- Familiarity with basic configuration control.
- Experience in one or more of the following design areas:
- Analog and digital circuit board circuit design, layout, manufacturing, and testing.
- Microcontroller firmware design and test (C preferred).
- FPGA firmware design and test (VHDL preferred).
- Embedded digital signal processing (DSP).
- Linux kernel device driver development.
- Fiber-optics hardware design and test.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret complex technical documents.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas orally and visually.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio).
- Proficiency in Electrical CAD software.
- Ability to lift 40 lbs.
- Willingness to travel infrequently for sea-testing or product demonstrations.
- Working knowledge of common test equipment:
- DC power supplies
- Digital multimeters
- Oscilloscopes
- Logic analyzers
- Vendor specific programmers or debuggers
