Responsibilities
- Provide material engineering guidance on projects and processes pertaining to materials and metallurgical processes.
- Identify, characterize, test, and evaluate various materials and substances, including metallic alloys and other materials.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure equipment contracts, servicing, calibration, and scheduling; possess specialized certifications as required.
- Utilize equipment to identify unknown materials, issue reports to the customer, and maintain a filing system for records.
- Perform sensitization testing of 5
XXX series aluminum per ASTM G67, submit results to approving authority semi‑annually to maintain lab certification. - Perform non‑destructive testing on 5
XXX series aluminum utilizing a Degree of Sensitization probe. - Perform spectroanalysis on metals via X‑ray, fluorescence, and optical emission spectrometers for unknown material identification and verification.
- Perform hardness tests of various metals using Brinell and Rockwell hardness testers.
- Coordinate with ship’s force to perform silicon aluminum bronze testing on union nuts for high‑pressure systems (e.g., High Pressure Air, SCBA, Halon, Hydraulics, Steering, RAST, CPP, Anchor Handling); generate reports and maintain records.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- 4 years of full‑time experience with materials lab analysis or engineering support.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- All applicants must be U.S. Citizens, pursuant to government contractual requirements.
- Requires walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional noise.
- Ability to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in office, warehouse, laboratory, pier side, and shipboard locations.
- Noise conditions range from very quiet to loud; hearing protection may be required at times.
- May be required to go aloft onboard ships to inspect tanks, voids, spaces and superstructures.
Salary: $32.30 - $32.53 per hour
