General Description Of Position

The Design Center Manager is responsible for managing the Engineering and future Sales Technical support for a product line. This role typically leads a team of 1-6 engineers who conceive, design, and execute engineered solutions meeting the performance requirements of products for the Business Unit’s served. Areas of focus include materials, component and system level design, development, optimization, and production quotations.

Requirements
  • 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related discipline
  • 8+ years’ experience in manufacturing or technical sales
  • 5 years management experience in engineering or production environment
  • Understanding of Customer engineering requirements, including technical drawings
  • Strong communication skills and ability to effectively collaborate with production teams in Japan
  • Knowledge of materials, related technology, production processes (Metalizing, brazing, chemical cleaning, assembly, FDA regulations, CE marking, etc.), and US supply chain
  • Strong computer skills: MS Office Word, Excel, Power Point

Bi-Lingual Language Skills Preferred (Japanese And English)

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with Engineering and Sales Managers to determines where product can be designed or re‑designed or new product lines introduced, to meet new customer or market requirements.
  • Increase information quality and volume from Market with KC technology team to be shared with divisions, so that they can expand overseas business and contribute to divisional financial targets.
  • Research customer design needs and assigns design engineers to appropriate projects. Delegate resources to US production operations in close contact with KC production.
  • Address lingering engineering issues related to new and existing products which limit market gain.
  • Assist with new business inquiries and explore market opportunities based on Kyocera technologies, including technical partners, mergers, and acquisitions, and forming new strategic partnerships between Kyocera and outside industry.
  • Coordinate communication with Production, engineers, ISD, Marketing, Corporate Development, and divisional Management in US operations to promote aligned new business development.
  • Participate in Amoeba Management, including monthly financial analysis, reporting to KC and KII Leadership monthly and quarterly. Manage expenses including labor and travel.
