Instruments Inc., a long-established defense manufacturer, is seeking a detail-oriented CAD Drafter to support the design and production of high-performance solid-state power amplifiers.
Job Summary:
The CAD Drafter – Level 1 supports the design and documentation of electro-mechanical components and assemblies. This early-career role focuses on producing accurate 2D drawings and maintaining organized engineering documentation under supervision. The ideal candidate thrives in a small-team environment, takes ownership of their work, and understands the importance of accuracy, quality, and revision control in a regulated defense manufacturing setting.
Reports to:
Engineering Manager
Full-time, on-site position (San Diego, CA).
Essential Duties & responsibilities:
- Convert mechanical engineering designs into accurate 2D technical drawings using AutoCAD LT.
- Generate complete assembly drawings with parts lists (BOMs).
- Prepare production-ready drawings and data packages to support manufacturing and assembly.
- Create 1:1 scale flat patterns and modification drawings for fabricated metal parts.
- Initiate and incorporate Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and maintain revision control.
- Maintain accurate electronic file and document organization.
- Ensure compliance with ASME Y14 drafting standards and internal drafting protocols.
- Support adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory requirements (e.g., ITAR).
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to resolve documentation issues.
- Fulfill drawing and label requests.
- Properly file engineering documentation.
- Perform other duties as needed to support project and team success.
Qualifications & Abilities:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD LT (2004 or later) for 2D drafting.
- Understanding of ASME Y14 drafting standards.
- Ability to interpret and create technical drawings, schematics, BOMs, and engineering documents.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills—both written and verbal.
- Highly organized and self-directed with minimal need for supervision.
- Proficiency in Solidworks or Auto CAD

Pay Range:
1-3 years’ experience: $27-$34/hour
U.S. Person status required (in compliance with ITAR regulations).
