Position: Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) GMWS Technician (12)

Overview

Description: Background check, US Citizenship, CAC, secret security clearance, and 15% travel are requirements for this position. The RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) is a small, lightweight, infrared-homing surface-to-air missile utilized by the U.S. Navy and the Navies of many allies. The Rolling Airframe Missiles, together with the Mk 49 Guided Missile Launching System (GMLS) and support equipment, make up the RAM Mk 31 Guided Missile Weapon System (GMWS).

The missile is currently active aboard Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers, Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, Wasp-class amphibious assault ships, America-class amphibious assault ships, San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ships, Whidbey Island-class dock landing ships, Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ships, and littoral combat ships (LCS).

Position Description

The technician will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) MK-31 Mod 1/3/5 Guided Missile Weapons System (GMWS) at the organizational level, utilizing appropriate documentation, tools, and test equipment. This encompasses a wide range of activities. The Technician will:

  • Conduct both preventive and corrective maintenance on the RAM GMWS to include routine inspections, fault analysis, troubleshooting, realignment, and repairs of individual equipment components, as well as the entire system & its interaction with other systems.
  • Provide support for equipment removal and relocation, as well as Fleet Modernization requirements. This may include conducting site surveys and working in restricted areas.
  • Assist in planning, scheduling, coordinating, and developing various aspects of modernization efforts. This includes the creation of project plans, Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms), and modernization tasking. Additionally, the technician will participate in in-briefings, coordination meetings, peer review teams, & product teams.
  • Review, update, and provide comments, recommendations, and assessments related to modernization documents, including Ship Installation Drawings (SIDs), installation plans, and Installation Requirements Manuals.
  • Develop Fleet Modernization requirements, including installation drawings, site surveys, detailed ship checks, & master material lists.
  • Be responsible for the procurement, repair, kitting, assembly, fabrication, receipt, shipment, & transportation of parts and materials.
  • Support material management activities, including logging, inventorying, tracking, verifying receipts, and supporting modernization teams. This includes managing material inventory, tracking system, material replacement, & materials procured, acquired, and kitted for peripheral modernization items such as cables, junction boxes, power panels, foundations, and labels.
  • Support for post-modernization installation, checkout, and closeout activities. This may involve technical refresh, software upgrades for training systems, installation of modifications to shipboard command & control combat systems and subsystems, ORDALTS, and Field Changes.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the RAM weapon system during fleet Combat System Ship Qualification Trials (CSSQT) and other testing phases, including Developmental Testing (DT), Operational Testing (OT), and Enterprise Testing (ET) on fleet platforms as needed.
Qualifications
  • Preferred:
    Minimum of 5 years as an Enlisted Fire Control Technician (NEC V10A or similar). However, an Enlisted Fire Control Technician with similar experience and the NEC for CIWS, NATO Sea Sparrow, or SSDS experience may qualify as well.
  • Minimum of 4 years of shipboard experience
  • Must possess a Secret Clearance or be able to obtain a Secret Clearance
  • Communication skills in briefing at all levels of the organization, and be able to work with and foster a strong team environment.
  • Analytical skills to effectively track, manage, and update multiple technical issues.
  • Must have good Microsoft Office Suite computer skills.
  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills.
