Pay: $145,000 - $195,000/year + Performance Bonus

Employment Type: Full-Time

Build and lead a department, not just manage one. If you want a ceiling, look elsewhere.

About C2 Group

C2 Group is a woman-owned (WBE) strategic consulting and infrastructure technology firm headquartered in San Diego. Since 2016, we ve grown from a garage startup to 120+ employees, inspecting over 1 million utility structures and pioneering operational frameworks that California s major utilities, PG&E, Southern California Edison, and SDG&E, now use as industry standards.

But here s what makes us different: we re not just an engineering firm.

We operate across five integrated business lines: strategic consulting, program/project management, civil and electrical engineering, data analytics, and field services (including one of the largest private drone inspection fleets in the utility sector). Our engineering team is one piece of a larger platform, which means the leader who joins us won t hit a ceiling defined by billable hours. You ll have the opportunity to shape how engineering connects to our consulting practice, our technology investments, and our growth into federal and municipal markets.

We integrate AI, predictive analytics, LiDAR, and GIS into daily workflows, not as marketing buzzwords, but as tools that give us a competitive advantage and lower overhead. If you want to lead somewhere that s actually building the future of infrastructure, not just talking about it, keep reading.

The Role

We re looking for a Civil Engineering Department Manager or Senior Civil PE to lead and scale our engineering division. You ll inherit a team of approximately 12 engineers, designers, and drafters, and your job is to grow it.

This is a leadership role with real ownership. You won t be a senior individual contributor with a fancy title. You ll run the department: setting strategy, building capability, developing people, and driving the business forward. You ll report to executive leadership with direct visibility into company direction, and you ll have a seat at the table when we are making decisions about where C2 goes next.

Our engineering work spans power utility projects (transmission, distribution, civil), transportation electrification, and infrastructure modernization for municipal and private clients. The portfolio is diversifying, and we need a leader who can scale the team to meet growing demand while maintaining technical excellence.

What You ll Do
  • Lead and develop a team of 12+ engineers, designers, and drafters, with plans to grow significantly as we expand market presence
  • Own department strategy: hiring roadmap, capability development, service line expansion, and operational efficiency
  • Serve as technical authority on civil engineering design, QA/QC standards, and client deliverables
  • Partner with executive leadership on strategic proposals, market assessments, and business development pursuits
  • Coordinate across disciplines: electrical engineering, field services, data analytics—to deliver integrated solutions
  • Champion technology adoption: leverage AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, and emerging AI tools to drive efficiency and differentiation
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, resource allocation, and client relationships at the portfolio level
  • Represent C2 Group to clients at industry events and in business development contexts
  • Travel occasionally to client sites and project locations (approximately 5-10%)
Who Thrives Here

You re not looking for a comfortable landing spot to coast into retirement. You want to build something. You re energized by the idea of taking a 12-person team and turning it into a 25-person team, then a 40-person department, with corresponding growth in your own scope, title, and compensation.

You re technically excellent but not stuck in the weeds. You can review drawings and catch errors, but you d rather spend your time developing people, winning work, and thinking strategically…
